Bath Abbey: Hospitality

Andrew has produced two series of ceramic works for this exhibition. The first is a set of large porcelain bowl forms with rounded bases. Their profiles bring to mind the shapes of Bronze Age Cycladic ceremonial and feasting vessels; their size suggests hospitality and plenty.

The second is a series of three families of thrown porcelain vessels where coloured slip has been combined to form abstract, painterly surfaces. From a certain perspective we observe the outward geometric forms but are also drawn in by their organic surfaces; are we looking at domestic vessels, searching clouds for hidden patterns or observing a cityscape? The exhibition runs throughout June and July 2013. It brings together works that critically engage with the theme of 'Hospitality' and are inspired by, and in dialogue with, the contemporary life of Bath Abbey.
